Long established venue for fine Scottish steaks and seafood.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Less than a mile from Junction 3 on the M9, the celebrated Champany Inn has been drawing in those in search of fine Scottish dining for more than 25 years. Rough stone walls and low beams evidence its 16th century farm steading origins, while polished wood tables and elegant spoonback chairs reflect its current pitch (firmly in the upper strata). Prime Scotch beef steak holds centre stage both in the restaurant and in the more informal Chop and Ale House next door, but top-notch seafood is also well-represented from oysters and lobster to salmon hot-smoked in the Champany smoke-pot. House wines from South Africa supplement a cellar list otherwise majoring on fine wines.

The Larder

Included in our Larder listings – order print copies of our national (pub. 2010) and regional guides.

Run for over 25 years by husband and wife team Clive and Anne Davidson, the Champany Inn was finally awarded a Michelin star in 2008. Scotch beef holds centre-stage here - and at the more informal Chop and Ale House next door - but there is also room for a plethora of seafood options on the menu, from Loch Gruinart oysters and lobsters to fillets of salmon hot-smoked to order over wood chips in the kitchen's own smokepot.

  • House wine: £21.90 per bottle
