Sometimes you just want to have your dinner – a tasty meal in a simple neighbourhood place where you don’t have to dress up. This formula of bistro-style grub at competitive prices is clearly a winning one as the Smoke Stack has been feeding local families, shoppers and theatre-goers for over two decades. The all-day menu ranges from freshly made waffles in the morning alongside the usual breakfast items, to salads and sandwiches at lunch. Dinner centres on meat – steaks are their speciality. They’re made from Scotch Beef Club beef that has been dry aged for at least 21 days, there’s a range of sizes and cuts, and they know how to cook them properly. Burgers are huge chargrilled beasts accompanied by crisp hand-cut chips. Retro dishes such as prawn cocktail and scampi sit alongside superfood salads and green smoothies so there’s something for all the generations. The décor is stripped down and the room well-lit which gives a functional feel – all the better for spotting the excellent seasonal deals.
