The Royal Highland Show at Ingliston opens on Thursday 19 June for its annual four-day celebration of food, farming and the countryside. The Food Hall ranks as one of the largest gatherings of Scottish food and drink in the calendar with over 100 exhibitors and a large demonstration theatre. There’s a special focus this year on food and drink from Strathclyde. Adult entry for the entire show is £20 on the gate. www.royalhighlandshow.org
Now Well established established on Church Street just off Dumbarton Road in Glasgow’s West End, Balbir’s already has a second branch out in Symington in Ayrshire, and has announced plans to open another outlet at 573 Sauchiehall Street. This site, just to the west of Charing Cross where the old Karisma restaurant traded, will host Tiffens@Balbir’s.
The Stockbridge Restaurant in Edinburgh has teamed up with Nell Nelson (pictured above), known for her TV appearances on The Woman Who Ate Scotland and also a qualified nutritionist and regular List Eating & Drinking Guide contributor, to produce a special menu aimed at those concerned about sticking to a diet when eating out. Described as a ‘Guilt-free Gourmet Menu’, it’s trying to prove that healthier meals can still be expertly cooked to restaurant standard. Two courses cost £18.95 and the menu is available all summer on Tuesday to Friday evenings. Book on 0131 226 6766.
