What to expect at the 2014 West End Beer Festival

The West End Beer Festival is set take place on 19 Oct at five of the city’s top West End bars, as part of the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival. Each venue has collaborated with one of Scotland’s finest microbreweries to bring a host of craft beers to the city.

The day starts at Teuchters on William St at 12.30pm where modern twists on classic beers by eco-friendly Fallen Brewing Co will be on offer. At 2pm move just doors down to The Melville where Edinburgh institution, and makers of Deuchars IPA, Caledonian Brewery will be setting up shop. Alechemy Brewing and The Grosvenor on Shandwick Place have joined forces to offer Ritual and light golden Citra Burst IPA from 3.30pm. At 5pm the party moves to The Ghillie Dhu on Rutland Place, where you can try Bow Fiddle Blonde, a clean tasting golden ale with lingering bitters, by Speyside Craft Brewery. Finally at 6.30pm head to Ryan’s Bar where Barney’s Beer and Stewart Brewing will be offering beers such as Beet Red Beer (check out its fantastic red colour) and staple Volcano IPA on tap.

The good people at Inveralmond Brewery know that everything tastes that little bit better when it’s free, so throughout the day they're offering you the chance to win a mini keg of award-winning golden Ossian ale. Plus Stewart Brewing have created a singature beer for the festival, with the organisers are running a competition to name the beer.

The craft and cask ales flow at this sort-of pub crawl, with several establishments in the West End joining forces to celebrate craft and cask ales of some of Scotland's best known and up and coming microbrewers. Makers include Barney’s Beer, Caledonian, Inveralmond, Alchmey and Speyside Craft Brewery.
