Edinburgh chef launches competition for best dessert
New Mark Greenaway Award established to find Scotland's most innovative dessert from an amateur chef
Mark Greenaway loves pudding. He loves the opportunities the dessert course offers to play games, blend flavours, mix colours and subvert textures. During his appearance on Comic Relief's Great British Menu earlier this year he unveiled a creation labelled 'Knot Chocolate Tart' featuring popping candy and hot snow.
Eager to find out what other exciting dessert ideas there are out there, he has launched a new award in association with brewer Innis & Gunn, another local company with an interest in innovative and unexpected flavour combinations. The competition is open to amateur cooks who think they can create a dish that would hold its own on the menu at Restaurant Mark Greenaway, with prizes including a chance to prepare the dish for real one night during service in the restaurant, plus a table for four for the winner's friends and family on the night in question.
Entries, which should include a recipe and hi-res photo of the completed dish, need to be submitted by Sun 24 Nov 2013. Judging takes places on Sun 8 Dec. For more, visit markgreenaway.com/mark-greenaway-award.
