Foodies Festival hits second year

Hot on the heels of the recent Taste Festival, the Foodies Festival sets out its succulent stall for a second year.

Following its inaugural success last year, the Foodies Festival will return to Edinburgh this summer for a foodie extravaganza in and around Holyrood.

Following the pattern of last year’s line-up, this year’s programme boasts demonstrations from some of Scotland’s top chefs – among them Michelin star-winners. Look out for Jacqueline O’Donnell of the Sisters and Paul Tamburrini of Hotel du Vin among the acclaimed culinary experts.

Elsewhere, food lovers can enjoy masterclasses with tastings from industry experts, offering oysters, cocktails, luxury chocolate, gin and cheese, as well as a champagne tent hosted by Veuve Clicquot, a market of specialist food-and-drink producers and a whisky theatre.

Foodies director, Sue Hitchen has recently staged similar events in the grounds of Hampton Court and in Brighton (where Heather Mills made an appearance), building on the blueprint laid out in Edinburgh last year. ‘Foodies has been an incredible success at the Edinburgh festival,’ she said, ‘so I am very excited to expand the event and provide the rest of the UK with this fantastic opportunity to celebrate food and drink. This year will see a heightened demand for local, seasonal food and these events give visitors the opportunity to see top-class chefs and discover fantastic culinary delights.’

The Edinburgh event will be in the parklands of the Royal Palace of Holyrood House, from 21–23 August, the three-day format capitalising on the Edinburgh festival crowds, with this year’s Fringe festival running a bit later this year.

Plans are afoot to stage yet another event in the capital in December.
