Cocktail mixer tips from one of the brains behind Scottish soft drink comeback kids
'Tis the season to gather together with loved ones and eat ourselves into a stupor until the new year. Since we've been dreaming non-stop of turkey and trimmings since the weather turned cold, we decided to ask some professional foodies about their culinary inspiration, the secret behind their Christmas show-stoppers and how they innovate on the classics.
Here we chat to Bon Accord founder Karen Knowles.
Christmas isn't complete without a cocktail, what's your ultimate go to festive tipple?
I love a white port and tonic as an aperitif in the afternoon. Later on, Cross Brew Espresso Martinis go down a treat in our house!
What does Christmas at Bon Accord look like?
After a hectic run-up to Christmas with lots of events and getting customer orders shipped out in time for Christmas, the Bon Accord team love spending quality time with family and friends over the festive break.
Who is your favourite chef or what is your favourite cookbook for festive cooking inspiration?
I love Nigella at Christmas – simple, delicious, crowd pleasing recipes!
How can you spice up the usual Christmas side dishes to give them an exciting twist?
Adding chestnuts and bacon to brussel sprouts is always a winner and this year I'll be doing some Middle Eastern inspired dishes such as roasted carrots with garlic yoghurt and greens with pine nuts.
How would you convince someone to eat out for their Christmas meal?
I love cooking big feasts for family and friends at Christmas so I wouldn't try to convince anyone to eat out!
Are you an eat your advent calendar all at once or strictly one per day sort of person?
Strictly one per day, or else you may find yourself on Santa's naughty list....
Do you have any recipes or food traditions that have been passed down in your family?
My mum makes the most delicious food at Christmas – her recipes for classic clootie dumpling and sticky toffee pudding are firm family favourites!
What is your Christmas show-stopper?
A twist on Nigella's ham cooked with Coca-Cola – I love a ham cooked with Bon Accord Rhubarb Soda, it's super easy and a great thing to have in the fridge when unexpected guests pop-over.
