Since 1983, Abbey Cottage tearoom has been part of many a day out to New Abbey's very old, ruined Sweetheart Abbey, and it's as quaintly picturesque as the village itself. Winner of a Tea Guild Award of Excellence every year since 2003, the focus is on afternoon tea, with light (but generously sized) hot and cold lunches and snacks making use of excellent basic ingredients including Loch Arthur cheeses. The tearoom's own garden provides herbs and salad leaves, and fruit from which they make jam for home-made scones. A 'free-from' menu is available, there's good choice for veggies, and though they're not licenced you're welcome to bring your own wine.
