for REAL French cakes-made-by-a-French-boulanger-pâtissier, go to THe French Fancies at 42 London street. Their cakes (and macarons) are so yum!
(I'm French)

Watch their seating policy - you need to wait to be seated. If you have the cheek to seat yourself - since their seating policy is not clearly displayed - you WILL be ignored. Thats what happened to us. We called over a waiter, and he told us (politely) we should have waited to be seated..... we left.

On the outset this place looks great, unfortunately the quality of the products do not match the quality of the packaging they put them in. Very disappointing. If you are looking for quality and at a better price there is a place on junction street in Leith called La Cerise that does all sorts of cakes that are ten times as nice as what this place sells. You would think the place on rose st should have the better quality but I can assure you it doesn't come close to la cerise.

what a nice presentation, but big disappointment about the quality, very poor quality factory make cakes, i don't think I'm going to rush to that shop for cake soon, probably never.

Only for people mistaking quantity for quality...
Cakes might look good on first quick glance, ours were actually really not good. Mille feuille was at least 2 days old with under-cooked and now saggy puff pastry, far too much custard and a ton of sugar layer. Definitely not like the real yummy french version.
The black forest was super dry, no hint of kirsch. The chocolate mousse was maybe the least disappointing, but still really nothing exceptional.
Just avoid the place altogether. On a Sunday lunch time, you should get freshly-made cakes, not 2-days old ones, especially at these prices (£2.85 to take away).
