The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
This genuine neighbourhood bar is simple and minimal in its approach. Windows on two sides let in plenty of light, or highlight the goings on of the quiet street beyond, and the original brick walls are unadorned and unaltered. A compact menu offers platters and pies, with weekly specials to liven things up. The range of entertainment from folk sessions, quiz nights and a monthly reggae-themed barbecue suggests it draws a regular crowd, and shows it is part of the local scene. Booths at the back are comfy and offer more intimacy than the coolly designed, somewhat spartan, floor arrangement. On tap Asahi lager is an unusual and welcome offering while the Angostura 1919 rum is the pick of the spirits.
- High point: Stylish and comfy booths
- Low point: No bigger bites for rumbling tums

What a cool bar, brilliant decor and fabulous staff. The drinks on offer are well priced. The last time I was in I had one of the sandwiches which at around £5.00 was well worth the money - big thick slices or bread, loads of fillings and salad and crisps. They have home made soup every day and speciality mutton pie with beans or peas. It's a good place to go and read the paper or have a fun night out with friends. They have free Scottish music nights on a Tuesday and I think there is also a free comedy night once a month. Great wee pub with a great atmosphere.
