The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the 2011 edition.
This ivy-clad basement townhouse on the Bath St social hub is an interesting and attractive mix of bar/bistro and hotel with a dark and dangerous (especially when you trip on the way to the toliet) interior and a public yet surprisingly intimate table-space below the steps outside. The decor appears more pub than brasserie, and the menu has gone through something of an identity crisis of late. It has recently settled on a pared-down version of the Asian offerings from stablemate Bar Soba at its venues on Mitchell Lane and Byres Road, losing some of the interest of those menus with a fairly straightforward selection of a dozen or so curries, rice and noodle dishes and salads.

Poor old St.Judes, I'm decrepit enough to remember when this was the hippest bar in the hippest area.

I was very impressed by the look of this restaurant and had high expectations after examining the menu. However, I was rather disappointed. The presentation of the food was nice but everything lacked seasoning and flavour. Some parts of our meal were undercooked, whilst others overcooked. In fact, I had the beef in brioche and this was burnt completely black on the underside.
During our meal, we were the only people in the restaurant. Despite this, the 4 members on staff on duty were very very slow in their service. On arrival, we waited around over 10 mins for someone to take our drink order, and later, sat with empty plates in front of us for an average of 15 mins.
Would not recommend I'm afraid.
