The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the 2012 edition.
Laid out in the front section of what used to be the MacKinnon (of Drambuie) family’s luxury car garage is now a large tearoom and shop, one long side dominated by a multicoloured array of F&D confectionery. Chocolates at one end – see the chocolatier making them – stovies and soup at the other, fudge doughnuts, coffee cream towers, steak pies and sticky buns to boggle the imagination in between. Behind the counter is where the baking happens, almost entirely by hand still. Also out of sight above you is the most obvious embodiment of the company’s efforts to reduce carbon consumptions: enough solar panels to pump out over 1000kw of power each month.
Listed in The Larder – in the shops now or buy online.

From Fife to Oman: well travelled fudge doughnuts
Fisher & Donaldson's doughnuts were an RAF troops' dream come true
Most of us treat our colleagues by bringing a packet of biscuits into the office - for one RAF squadron leader, getting a box of doughnuts to work required a plane, a 4x4 and a boat.

Visited last Friday for lunch - chaotic. Long wait to be served and tables slow to be cleared. However, to my horror I then witnessed a young man, whom I assume was connected to the business but wearing his outdoor clothing, march up behind the counter in the bakery section and help himself to a bread roll from the baskets on display.
Without further ado he then went over to the sandwich fillings in the chilled cabinet and made himself a sandwich! Unacceptable standard of hygiene and a total disrespect for patrons! Needless to say I won't be going back.

Latest of our regular trips (from Edinburgh) to F&D on last Sunday. We go for the Stovies (in my case), Soup (in her case) and the fudge doughnuts (both). Other honourable mentions go to the takeaway bridies, cakes and chocolates. A true Scottish company of the old school which makes quality products. We have always found staff pleasant, and it's great to park just outside. Maybe they have the own way of doing things, but stick to what they are good at (as above) and you'll enjoy it. Kingarrock Hickory Golf Course is just up the road and a complete hoot.

Very disappointed with my recent visit to this good looking cafe near to Cupar station.
I had:
Bacon roll and cappuccino
Problems:
* Microwaved bacon
* Terribly weak coffee
* Abrasive staff
* 50p extra due to paying by card (all purchases under a tenner and no cash machine nearby!)
I ate the roll which was passable. However I did comment that the cappuccino was too weak, to which the manager said "that is the way the coffee comes, if you want it stronger you'll have to buy an extra shot". Her manner was very off-hand and dismissive.
Hence, initial cost £5.65 was bumped up to £7.45! THAT is too much for the location, in fact I'd baulk at paying that at a London airport!
Poor!
