All five of GH Barnett’s bakeries stick to the formula established in 1947, offering the sort of traditional Scottish confectionary that other bakeries have stopped producing, such as ‘tipsy cake’. Ingredients are sourced locally where possible, notably the cheese used in their oatcakes, while a recent expansion has seen them branch out into artisan breads, baking around a dozen seasonal varieties every day of the week. Plans to develop a cafe are ongoing.
