The Larder

Listed in The Larder – in the shops now or buy online.

Blairgowrie Farm Shop, open since 2007, sources its fruit and vegetables from local farms, and claims to get the produce on the shelf much more quickly than most supermarkets. It also offers many jams, chutneys and sauces made locally around Tayside. And if you need soft fruit for jam-making, they keeps some aside each day – it's all rather sweet and thoughtful. Fruit and veg boxes were introduced as a natural progression in supplying the most local, seasonal produce possible, and can be ordered online with free delivery to most local areas including Perth and Dundee. Online buying is also available for much of their widening range of artisan produce, from organic breads from the Bothy Bakehouse to wild smoked salmon from Usan Fisheries, via Puddledub buffalo, organic chicken, Highland beef and venison, eggs and organic lamb. If it's not, then call the shop to pre-order for the next monthly delivery. The farm shop also offers business fruit deliveries to offices in Tayside.

I bought a free range duck from this shop for our Christmas dinner. When I returned home with it, I was horrifird to find that it looked more like a porcupine. The bird still had the quills in it. When I contacted the shop I was told they could do nothing about it as they didn't have another one to give me. He told me to go into the shop after the holiday and he would sort it out for me.
I have just returned - what a rude objectionable man. Even thogh I showed him photographs and took in the (frozen) cooked skin to prove it still contained the quills he refused to do anything about it.
£26 for a bird that I had to spend time plucking myself, time wasted - but worst of all Christmas dinner spoiled.
