Its unusual shape and slightly offbeat location are matched by The Regent’s leftfield tagline as ‘Edinburgh’s Gay Real Ale Pub’, and it successfully manages to smoothly blend both factors of this vaguely oxymoronic claim. Indeed, it doesn’t take either part of its title too seriously and its cosy and hop-filled interior provides a warm refuge for all comers – although prudes might be mildly offended by the occasional reference to 'Knobgobbler' ale. As well as an impressive and ever-changing selection of guest beers there is also a good line-up of regular drafts and bottles, and a decent pub grub menu that offers unpretentious and well done dishes such as shepherd’s pie and smoked haddock risotto. All these combine to make The Regent a welcome addition to an otherwise fairly dry part of town.

Edinburgh's gay real ale pub. Relaxed and comfortable, The Regent is not the archetypal gay bar. It has been voted Edinburgh Pub Of The Year in both 2008 & 2010 by the Campaign for Real Ale. Food is available all day until 10pm and dogs are welcome, though unfortunately due to the alcohol license, children under 5 years are not allowed.

I was in youre bar last night I had a diet coke which cost me an outragous £1.60 not even a slice of fruit was included , a small glass bottle , I got chatting to another visitor to Edinburgh who spent three hours getting here , to visit the local Gay Bars his words why do the charge so much for so little he said he nearly fell off his stool when they asked £3.60 for a pint of tennents , the price alone has put me off , why be so greedy with youre prices , its not as if there is passing trade , you are a local bar depending on locals why Pay £3.60 when you can buy the same pint of lager at the Foot of the walk for £1.99 at least there you can get a seat to sit on and enjoy youre drink , i think you should recosider youre prices before you price youre self out of Buisness,
