The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the 2011 edition.
In the heart of Edinburgh University’s busy student zone in Chamber Street you will find what years ago was the Edinburgh Dental Hospital. Today there are happier reasons for opening your mouth wide and more sociable anaesthetics. Revolution, the 60+ UK chain of vodka bar nightclubs, has come to Edinburgh. Spread over two levels, the three bars and dining areas cater for groups wanting a fun night out. In fact, Revolution so keenly emphasises this enthusiasm that they will post photos of your evening out on their website so that you, your friends and pitchers of Club Tropicana can be visible to all the party poopers who had to stay home studying. The food menu covers the range of pub and bar standards thoroughly though rarely memorably. The dullish mezze selection features hummus and chicken skewers. Nachos are piled with generous toppings but over pretty average tortilla chips. The various burgers, 2-4-1 on Mondays, are large but a bit on the flabby side.
- High point: A wonderland of flavoured vodkas and creative vodka-based cocktails
- Low point: A visit to Revolution is not all about the food
- Number of wines sold by the glass: 5
- Provides: Gluten-free options, Children's portions, Children's high chairs, Wheelchair access, Outdoor tables, Free wi-fi
- Music on stereo: Laidback chill out by day; up beat, eclectic party tunes by night.
- Capacity: 70
- Largest group: 100
- Open since: 2007
- House wine: £14 per bottle

Nice place, pity about the over-zelous door staff!! My boyfriend and I were in this place, purchased a £40 bottle of champagne, sat down at a table which was wobbly and put one of their card-paper menus underneath the table to stop the wobble. According to their door staff this is vandalism and is a valid reason to be immediately and physically ejection from the premises. We apologised but to no avail, there was no common sense or decency. We were not drunk or making any trouble - we were sat in a corner talking.
Complained to manager who agreed they were being over the top - however for whatever reason he could/would not over-rule them and also refused us a refund.
And to top it off, as we left we looked back at the door staff who all seemed to find the whole situation hilarious.
I have been visiting Edinburgh for nights out for the best part of 10years and have never experienced this! Will be taking this matter further!!

I made the mistake of going to Revolution with a cold. Why was this a mistake, because when I went to the toilet to blow my nose, I was ejected because I was suspected of doing cocaine. Avoid if your at all unwell...

Nice studenty place - especially in the evening, if your going on the evening and are there for a night out, expect it to be busy, especially at the weekend but good party atmosphere. Nice for food too.
However ... beware of the illegal measures! Legally 25 ml (or 35 ml) and multiples thereof. Almost every time I have been there I have observed severe underpouring, in some cases almost half. Fair enough when making cocktails - the recipe may require it.
But when your paying around £4 gin and tonic, I personally don't expect a 12.5 ml measure. It is illegal so if your drinking in there don't be afraid to speak up and make sure they pour you a proper measure. LICENCE BOARD PLEASE NOTE!!!
