Went back to cargo after hearing some good feedback from colleagues about a Friday night. Fantastic atmosphere, great food and fairly priced drinks. Was cleaner than I remembered it, still room for improvement but sighted to see that action was taken to improve the place from when I remember it.

Went to the Scottish Screenwriters do in the Cargo yesterday, 25/06/11, Fountainbridge. The thing I remember most is going to the Gents toilet and having to wipe my feet on the way out...
The place should be shut down as a health hazard... and it's a restaurant as well?
I won't be eating there any time soon... or drinking!
Move the Scottish Screenwriters Annual event to a place where you can at least go into the toilets without wearing a rubber ring so you can at least float...

I had heard on the grapevine that Cargo had a great function area for large parties, therfore I booked as a surprise for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. I found the service before and during the party to be spot on. from the grl who dealt with it all and organised to the management and staff on the night, great dj, great venue and everyone loved the party food, all round great night, only slight issue was my underage niece had to leave at 8 because of the bar and its licence which was a shame

I had my engagement function here and although it is a very spacious and nice venue I was really let down by the staff. We had been misinformed regarding playlists at this event until a couple of days before and then when we queried this I was informed I was the one who had obviously been misunderstood! I was offered compensation but this was minimal in relation to the hassle this caused us. I am not usually one to complain but after the service we received I won't be having another function here!!

As a regular when Cargo first opened 5 years ago, I really liked the place. Spacious, modern and in a ‘different’ location.

However last weekend I visited for the first time in 6 months and have to say the entire interior was in need of a massive clean / re-fit. It was dirty all-over (and I’m no clean-freak!). The gents toilets had a smell more akin to a 3rd division football stadium toilet; and that’s being polite.

Service was prompt and polite, drink was cold and there was ample seating for those who preferred not to stand. But you can get that most places. Won’t be back until I hear it’s improved.

I met a group of friends recently at Cargo for lunch in the afternoon. Choosing it on a friend's recommendation as he thought it child friendly. As it happened my friend didn't bring the kids, but it's definitely a place where you could take them along.

Bar staff were attentive and very friendly, as were the waiters. The food was reasonably prompt and good value. Music wasn't too loud, and the selection of beers was pretty good with Toburg, the Danish favourite on draft.

On issue though was that our bill included a mysterious £7 "Open drink" charge. We queried it as all other drink items were categorised. We were informed that it was an optional service charge. We thought this a bit dodgy as underneath the total it stated "Service Not Included". So check your bill carefully.

Overall I'd recommend Cargo and would certainly go back there. It's a good place to meet. On a sunny day with the seats outside next to the canal it would be even better.
