The Living Room
Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2012 edition.

Weekends at this popular bar and diner feature live music and even a regular magician – helping to create a lively infectious buzz that is easy to get caught up in. Couples and groups are seated in leather booths, helping to break up the restaurant space and injecting some intimacy, while the busy waiters flit around with efficient pleasantness. The large menu includes starters ranging from mussels and chicken liver parfait to Thai fish-cakes and risotto. Although the pan-fried chorizo is rather rubbery, the beer-battered prawns are a success. The varied mains include steaks, burgers, lasagne, and a rack of lamb. The tandoori sea bass is enjoyable, but lacks the layers of spice you’d get in an Indian restaurant. Similarly the Thai green curry was good, but without the complex flavours of an authentic preparation. Chocolate and salted caramel tart is a gratifying finale. It’s called the living room and not the dining room for a reason it seems – it's not all about the food here, it’s as much about a fun, entertaining night out, and that's exactly what is delivered.

As one of The Living Room's piano/vocalists, I have to say it is the nicest place to play in the city. The sound can get turned low for the restaurant or up for the bar, the piano is never broken, the mic works, and being up on a stage means you aren't going to get some geezer trying to sit on your lap! There's always a good buzz, the staff are great, the doorman's a gentleman...defo worth a visit at the weekend. And I hear the food's good too :)

I love The Living Room. I have had a few birthday nights in there and the food is always excellent, it may not be haute cuisine but what they serve is delicious. My sister had a dinner in there for her 30th birthday and the table age ranged from 20 to 84 and everyone had a lovely evening, not many restaurants can do that, plus and excellent Bloody Mary!

Great place. Eclectic menu, tasty food, good value and best of all, great staff, which i think really makes a place or not. Not best placed i would say unfortunately but its worth checking out.
