Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.

Thriving Broughton Street in the East End of Edinburgh has loads of choice for hungry visitors looking for a nice night out. Hamburger Heaven aims for a mid-way option focusing on decent-quality American-style food. A fairly extensive menu certainly produces a lot of choice, although breaded spicy chicken-wings in BBQ sauce prove to be quite a dry and heavy starter while brie wedges with cranberry sauce are nothing to get excited about either. As the name suggests, burgers rather than steak are the focus here, and if you’re looking for a homemade juicy, slightly spicy beef burger done in whatever style you can dream of, this is the ideal place. There is a good range of vegetarian choices too, such as a lentil burger with cumin and coriander. Desserts are a high point: try a freshly made raspberry cheesecake or special crumble that changes with the season.

  • High point: A burger pitched just the way you like it
  • Low point: Beyond the burgers, not much that really excites
  • Number of wines sold by the glass: 4
  • Provides: Children's portions, Free wi-fi
  • Music on stereo: Ambient pop
  • Capacity: 20
  • Largest group: 20
  • Open since: 2009
  • House wine: £11.95 per bottle

One of the best burgers I've ever had (I chose the Bronx which had chilli and jalapenos- YUM!) and good service, too. It isn't the cheapest burger in town but it's well worth it. Will definitely be going back!

Went to Hamburger Heaven about 6 months ago (sorry, catching up on reviews!). A place for which my and my partner's views completely differ.

We were both starving - went straight for burgers.

My partner really liked the food.

I was not impressed. In my view this was below my typical bottom line (i.e. "I could have made this tastier at home"). I did not even finish mine! The burger was overcooked, and the whole assembly was tasteless and dry.

I have refused to go back here as well as to the Blue Moon behind the corner (which apparently is served from the same kitchen) as my dinner was so bad. I have given two stars instead of one as the staff was friendly so things could have been worse I suppose..
