Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2012 edition.

Located in an unassuming shop front at the quiet end of Portobello High Street, Cinnamon is dominated by the busy, open, stainless-steel kitchen where food is prepared to order as you wait and watch. Cinnamon boasts a 'taste of modern India' and as well as the usual selection of sauces, from creamy korma to steamy vindaloo, it offers a full range of seafood, tandoori and vegetarian specials, long lists of starters, sides and breads and some great-value biryanis and banquets. Home delivery is free for orders over £15, however collection is recommended here as those waiting are kept well entertained by the 'floor show' from the open kitchen.

  • Delivery: From 5pm - 7 days a week, free delivery over £15

The reviewer is right... go collect your food from this place. A recent telephone order took 2 hours and 3 phone calls to be delivered, and the guy on the phone wasn't easy to deal with. It seems the kitchen favours orders from those who are present in front of them. That said, the food, when it arrived, was excellent as always, and very good value. If this place was able to deliver within an hour of receiving a telephone order it would receive 5 stars from me.

When phoning the Cinnamon take away and placing my order I was asked my address which I happily gave, I then was insulted with the retort, "Are you going to answer your door this time?" After some "excuse me what did you say" tennis it became apparent that they had confused me with some idiot that had forgotten they had ordered an indian and had gone out. After understanding the confusion and explaining there had been some mistake I was still accused of being"that idiot" I was asked in no uncertain way, "So do you want this order?" I explained once again that there had been some awful mistake, and surely the reason I was being spoken to like someone who had wronged his entire family was a case of mistaken identity. The confusion was unresolved and I was left feeling angry and wronged. I would not recommend using this place, the level of customer service and their lack of ability to rectify their own mistake is unsurpassed. On a positive note the last time we had their biryani it tasted of dirt

I give Cinnamon 5 stars- food is excellent, the rice and nan are included in the prices (which are very reasonable) and the people who work there are always polite and the guys that deliver, delightful. We've tried loads of takeaways over the years but don't bother looking any further than this place now- order there once a week (at least!)
