The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
The Treehouse Café, facing Bruntsfield Links, feels bright, summery and welcoming to anybody breezing in from Leven Street for a sit-in breakfast or lunch, or a take-away picnic on the Meadows. The eco-retro décor of cheerful pot plants and vintage vinyl attracts sunlight, folk seeking a quiet chat or read by a window view, as well as the hungry local student population. The young clientele and beyond-city-centre location lower the prices of breakfasts, from smoked salmon and scrambled egg croissants to porridge with poached apple, pear, honey and cinnamon. Lunches are fresh, classic salads, paninis and triple-decker club sandwiches, plus cakes and soups. Like a good treehouse, this is family friendly, with solid roots grown into the community, and there’s a 10% discount for students, NHS staff, and Cameo/Filmhouse members, as well as live music every Sunday at 3pm.
- High point: Inspiring freshness from the food and the setting
- Low point: Not the place for buzz – gentle hum more like it
- Provides: Vegetarian options (at least ¼ main courses), Children's portions, Children's high chairs, Wheelchair access, Live music
- Music on stereo: Relaxed, classic and current favourites, nothing too intrusive
- Capacity: 23
- Largest group: 25
- Open since: 2008

this waz a nice looking cae from the outside but frankly as soon as we enterd we were greetd by 2 misrable looking young women who didnt seem at all intrested in us. we sat down in the cafe and the waitress didnt smile or introduce herself she just asked in a bland drone oif theres anythin we wanted. my 13 year old neice who is autistic cudnt make her mind up and the waitress rolled her eyes n put her face in my neices and asked what she wanted. had we not needed somewere to sit for my mom [whos disabled] we wud have left. the food was bland and over priced ands the staff was rude. a blot on what would have been an otherwise perfect visit to scotland and edingbrough!!!

Made 2 visits to the lovely Treehouse last week and was reminded why it's one of my favourite places in Edinburgh. Amazing food, great coffee, cheery and helpful staff. A wee gem on the edge of the meadows. Love it.

EASILY the best egg/bacon roll I've had... I think probably ever; creamy egg and perfect piggy. Coffee? PERFECT! Temperature perfect (the milk's not lava or as hot as the sun!), super tasty and prettified with amazing coffee/milk patterns.
And the homemade cake is exquisite; moist, delicious and lovingly baked by the owner.
Great atmosphere and warm welcomes by the lovely staff ensure your visit to this wee lovingly built den is always a pleasure! Thanks ladies!...
Knowing me, knowing Treehouse - I'll be back for more!

I love this place, it's laid back and relaxed and perfect at any time of the day. The live sessions on a Sunday are great. Good prices as well.

I eat here once or twice a week for lunch. Staff are always friendly and quick to serve. Food is so so good and very consistent - panini's always perfect, latte's and hot chocolate's lovely and milionaire shortbread super sweet. Highly recommended. Best of it's kind in Tollcross area - and I've tried most of them!

...LOVE this place. the sausage and egg breakfast rolls and carrot cake are possibly the bestest in the world. friendly quirky atmosphere and staff. perfect place to take a time out and read the paper with coffee and cake, or meet friends for a good old chin wag. 10/10. Hx

Great food, endlessly friendly and helpful staff, i stop off for coffee and cake as part of my routine several times a week at this lively, welcoming cafe. Top grub, reasonable prices. Must visit if you head to the Burgh.
