This modern tandoori restaurant offers mid-range dining on the busy main drag of Sauchiehall St. Sleek service meets Bhangra and Bollywood bling in an intimate but comfortable setting. Images featuring Bollywood stars and cultural icons adorn shiny formica and chrome-clad walls. Most tables command great street-side views to watch the action beyond, while stairs lead to the more glitzy mezzanine, ideal for small groups. While the impressive menu of traditional and modern Indian cuisine raises expectations, delivery can be a little inconsistent. Standard fare egg pakora is slighty oily, and chicken chasni lacks the quality expected, but plenty of flair is evident for more bespoke dishes. Hot favourite, albeit pricey, is the Goanese fish and prawns, which marries meaty cod and juicy Atlantic-style prawns in a velvety coconut sauce laced with endorphin-raising fresh green chillis. The attractively priced pre-theatre thali platters and lunchtime menus incorporate a wide choice of classic dishes such as dopiaza, bhoona, korma and masala, and are well-placed to appeal to corporate diners and nearby theatregoers.

Sara McCuaig – 5 Feb 2013, 10:31am Indian Gallery Report: I cannot believe the negative comments about this restaurant , my husband and I go here once a week, the service firstly is excellent, this is a family run business, the attention to detail is exceptional they care very deeply about the service and the food that they serve, it is also spotless which certainly makes a change in some of the Indian Restaurants we have been to.
Yes this retaurant may cost you more than the Buffet rubbish or the other Indian Restaurants but you get what you pay for, food is of the highest quality, they will even do you a leg of lamb in the Tandoori oven(24hrs notice) that melts in your mouth, infact you can ask them to make you a dish that is not on the menu, and if they can they will, I love spicy food and they make me a special sauce every week, if I have to spend a few more pounds to have a fantastic meal I will, forget the negative comments this is a must go and try it for your self.

Also they overcharged us to on our bill and added an extortionate amount for tax????very disappointed and utterly disgusted !!!

Always fancied this place - work nearby and walk by regularly.

Finally ended up going last night, and what a disappointment. Food was average at best, and the main dish I first ordered was returned (first time in my life I have done this) as truly awful and really tasted nothing like what I ordered - the replacement dish was fine (average at best.) The other dishes my 6 colleagues had were also fine - nothing spectacular, but fairly decent.

However, the prices are way over the top for the quality served, in my opinion.

Lastly, the service was the real kicker - it was smarmy, false, and trying to over-sell (tried to get us to take 3 poppadums each, plus 4 pickle trays for 7 - then after we ordered all our food and rice/breads, tried to add another 4 naans we did not want. It was clear it was all about getting more money in, and less about what the customer wanted.

When we got the bill for 7 people, we checked the items charged for - incredibly they had added £55 (!!!) of extra items we had not ordered/eaten, plus miscalculated the total (another £13), and also added a service charge of around £20 on top of that! It took 4 attempts of sending the bill back to get the corrections required all made - and we were made to feel as if we were unreasonable for asking to resolve the billing. It appeared clear that the attempt to cheat us was very deliberate.

I would advise to be very wary if you go here - and certainly double/triple check each bill item and the totalling up (particularly if there is a crowd of you together.)

There are plenty other good restaurants in town that I will go to in future instead - a short walk along to Charing Cross takes you to Cafe Salma where the cost, food quality, authenticity and service are explemary, for example.

All in all - a very bad experience at "Indian Gallery".
