WHAT?!?!?!? - this is primarily an area to people watch and have a great laugh/drink!!!! I have eaten in these establishments loads in the last 3/4 years and not once have I had a poor experience with the quality of food/service - in fact I would go as far as to say that the service and quality of food far surpases the expectations - maybe as a diner you are expecting more for the money that you are investing....

My 3 friends and i decided to check out Ashton Lane - WE WONT BE BACK!! We decided to eat in "The Lane" - we settled down with some wine and then decided to order a meal. It was awful - we started with bruchetta to share x 2 - as we all like it - what we got (for £16.00) was 2 slices of toast with a dusting of tomato - hardly enough for one - never mind to be shared. It came at the same time as our main meal - on enquiring/complaining to the bar staff - we were asked "did we state it was to be a starter?" - eh - it was on the menu as a starter - therefore it should be served before your main meal, as a starter - we stated!!! After cutting each slice in 2 so that we could all have a piece - we started on our main meals. Not good - i ordered meatballs and spaghetti - the meatballs were RAW - i am not one to complain or leave reviews - but i was so dissappointed that i felt this time i had to. I was offered a replacement meal - this obviously came after my friends had eaten their main meals - so i was left to eat on my own. All we were offered in compensation was a bottle of wine, but as we had paid for the meal before we got it - what choice did we have but to accept this. (One of the many reasons i dont like paying for food before you get it.) To say it was dissappointing is an understatement as we were really looking forward to our afternoon/night in Ashton Lane. We promptly left and went to D'Arcys in Princes Square for pudding and a few cocktails!! (The Lane missed out big time to say the least!!!!!) - WE DEFINATELY WONT BE BACK TO THE LANE. Really was very dissappointing.

My husband and I ate at The Loft in February '09 as part of a friend's birthday celebration.
There were not enough staff to serve the busy tables and we waited an hour between first and main courses. Also, my dish (pasta- not exactly the most difficult to make) came once everyone else at our table of 8 had finished eating and my husband had to chase the flapping waitress to find it. By this time (10pm.....3 hours after we arrived) I was no longer hungry and didn't wish to sit eating on my own. My meal was removed form the bill......eh I didn't eat it anyway so I didn't feel this was compensation enough.
5 months on, we decided to give it another shot by visiting The Lane beneath The Loft. The place was deserted yet we had to order the food at the bar. I realise that this can be common for pub grub so we grumbled a bit but put up with it. HOWEVER, my hubby ordered a pint of guinness. The two bar staff argued about how to pour it and EVENTUALLY handed it over with no head. The chicken liver pate was pork, the pizza was cold and the portion of macaroni was tiny. COME ON THE LOFT AND THE LANE, YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!
DON'T GO!
