WE just had a fantastic Sunday lunch at the Cricklewood.
It was a family outing with 3 generations present (including two rowdy toddlers!). First time we had been as it's a bit out of town, but very easy to find, and park within grounds.
On first impressions it looked like a friendly country pub, but 2 or 3 ante-rooms give the impression of an up-market bistro. Staff were exceptionally welcoming, and immediately took our drinks order and made us aware of the specials.
The menu had plenty of choice (I think 6 starters, and about 8 mains) and we were all spoiled for choice. Kids menu had 2 starters, and 5 mains.
For first course I chose haggis and cheddar potato cakes which were excellent. It came with a fantastic mustard sauce which was mopped up using a few of my daughter's chips!! I then had steak which was a little over medium, but still very tasty and juicy. It was accompanied by a delicious pink peppercorn sauce. Dessert was a bailey's creme brulee, which was just right.
The kid's portions were great value; the portions were enough for an adult, and the fish goujons were huge fillets of beer battered fresh fish - amazing! Everyone was very impressed with the food and portion size.
The staff were attentive but not intrusive, and spent time talking to the kids, and fetching them toys. The kids got a bit over-excited running up and down the stairs, but the staff were incredibly tolerant.
Overall, we had a really nice, relaxed afternoon. There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the food was much better than average. It's a short drive out of Glasgow - but well worth the trip.

My sisters and I went into the Cricklewood on a Saturday night after a long walk. The place seemed really nice. We were told that we were unlikely to get into the reatarant but that we could have a bar snack. We asked for Haggis and potato croquettes and paid £4.75 for each one. We were given two smal potato croquettes with some haggis through them, two teaspoons of turnip and some sauce. When we complained about the size of the portions and the misinformation in the menu the bar attendant/waiter argued with us. I think their bar snacks are acutally starters for the restaurant. We certainly won't be going back there again. Do be careful if they offer you bar food!!!

Having booked the Cricklewood Hotel for a joint family birthday the whole evening was spoilt by waiting for 1hour and 45 mins just for the starters and then receiving uncooked chicken in 3 of the plates in a party of 10 where one lady was 85 and in poor health and another several months pregnant.
Unless you have money to burn, time to waste and risk your health and life I would certainly avoid!!
