The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
This long-standing takeaway, with a few stools inside, serves up a range of pakora, curries and grills, as well as standard burgers and pizzas and other crowd-pleasers like kebabs (the naan-wrapped king chicken tikka kebab is a winner). The Indian dishes are as good as many of the city’s curryhouses – better in numerous cases. Strange, enticing pakora are a speciality – try the brie and spinach, mozzarella and cashew, or cauliflower and cheese; or opt for a puri, delivered still light and airy with a fresh and vibrant aloo chana topping coming separate. Thirty-odd mains include butter masalas, saags, kormas and biryanis. South Indian garlic chilli chicken is hot, fruity and packed with fresh pepper and green chilli, while a rich, subtle cumin-spiced Ceylonese korma is boosted by generous amounts of cream and a tang of cloves. Prices are great value for the quality on offer, and staff make you feel like a regular after you've been in once.
Takeaway review
Catering for the post-pub, post-party or just stumbled out of a club crowd, Balti Club is top of the speed dial if you want, or perhaps need, a vat of curry, 12-inch meat feast and two litres of Irn Bru delivered at 4am. While the vivid colours of their diverse pakora selection suggest a heavy hand with the chilli powder, this is purely cosmetic and the surprisingly delicate spicing should be gentle enough on the most queasy of stomachs. The range of traditional curries are worth sampling, though some of the gentler offerings may lack the flavour power to punch through the fog of inebriation. Portions are notably large so there may well be plenty left over for a spicy breakfast.
- High point: Takeaway curries of distinction
- Low point: Deciding which pakora to have
- Delivery: £1.50–£2.50. Deliver to west end.
- Provides: Vegetarian options (at least ¼ main courses), Gluten-free options, Children's portions, Wheelchair access, Pre-theatre menu
- Music on stereo: TV tuned to pop music station.
- Capacity: 6
- Open since: 2005

****************************************- This customer talking a load of nonsense. We tried to be reasonable with him but hes making it look like we were trying to skin him for £2. i mean if it was a case of £29.99 and £39.99 then he might have a point but seriously £27.95 and £29.95 is it a lot to get upset about?
** You make your judgement.- IRONICALLY he did actually LOVE our food saying it was SUPERB and fantastic !
OK...mmm
- But it wasnt worth paying £2 on principle...mmmm Shame.Regarding this. Balti Club, like many other businesses sometimes dont always get round to updating every section of the site promptly and we are sorry for this but INFACT if you click ORDER ONLINE and load the menu then the OFFICIAL price will be shown and this is the price you will be charged. Please dont be offended or upset if there is a small difference.

Ordered a takeaway from the Balti Club the other day. The food was fantastic! The pakoras are not award winning for nothing! The other curry dishes were also superb!
Did have a strange experience when ordering, however - I chose 'Deal D' on their website but when I phoned was asked for £29.95 instead of the published £27.95. The guy on the phone sad that the price is years out of date! I replied that it's their website and therefore their responsibility! He argued that I was mistaken until I directed him to the page with that price! He told me it was out of date and that I had to pay the new price. I pointed out that they should keep their site up-to-date and that I shouldn't pay more than they advertise. In the end it wasn't worth arguing over £2 but the principle left a nasty taste in the mouth!
In summary then, fantastic food but questionable customer service.

We ordered two vegetarian curries from Balti Club on a Saturday evening just before 7pm, with cinema tickets already pre-booked for 8.50. At 8.40, after four phone calls from the takeaway (the staff had taken our credit card details down wrongly, then asked for directions, then rang twice over a period of 25 minutes claiming to be outside our building even though they patently weren't), our food finally arrived. It was only after tucking in for a few minutes that I realised there was chicken in my mushroom curry. I am a lifelong vegetarian, so as well as feeling rather unwell, my expensive dinner went straight in the bin, and by this point, our expensive cinema tickets were also wasted. All in all, Balti Club completely ruined an entire evening. Avoid at all costs.

We got a menu through the door and decided to try - but I looked up on here first. This is, by far, the best cuury I've eaten - from New York to London to Glasgow. The man on the phone truly wanted our business, and took care to make sure it was right (novel concept) and it came piping hot and fresh. The Garlic Naan was handmade and melted in my mouth with hand-cut garlic and oils. And it was not greasy food and we did not feel sick/stuffed after eating it. Amazing what a little love will do to food!
