I eat in and around Glasgow all of the time and Viva is one of my favorite places to meet with my friends and eat. The booths are intimate and the service unobtrusive and subtle yet there when you need them. The food is fresh and tasty and really not microwaved ??? Ok the menu is geared towards a Brit's idea of Italian food, i'll give you that, but it is what it is, and what they do offer is done to a good consistant standard. They take feedback seriously and if you ask they will prepare you food "off menu". I can honestly say that I have never been pressurised to buy a drink, all aspects of service are driven at the customers pace. They will also bag you up any leftovers for your lunch the next day (waste not want not). To sum up i think there is a good balance on food, price and service. To the person complaining about the drinks being more expensive there than Weatherspoons, it is a restaurant and drinks in restaurantsbwill be more expensive than pubs but with the greatest respects if you want cheap and nasty then that is where you should go, different strokes for different folks and all that

Best Italian meal I have had in ages! We visited as a part of 10 on a busy Friday night. The food and service were amazing. I had the meatballs to start, which were delicious. My main dish of pasta with italian sausage, bacon and chicken was onee of the nicest dishes I have had in a long time. The service was friendly, efficient and generally excellent. I cannot wait for my next visit.

I made a booking here through 5pm on Saturday 4th August, and I am so glad I booked it through there and got my 25% discount as I was not happy with the place. I think the place being half empty at 8pm on a Saturday evening should of told me all I needed to know.
My friend wanted a Rose wine and there was only one choice which she said tasted dreadful.
That was just the start I ordered a focaccia to come with my main course as I never wanted a starter and it came as a starter and I have been eating focaccias for years in many Italian restaurants and for this was the smallest unappealing focaccia I have ever seen and it was not as if it was cheap either as it was at the top end of the price you would look to pay. The girl who served it was so offish and rude also. The staff all looked like they could not be bothered with serving anyone to be honest. The main came and this was actually nice, then it came to dessert I never wanted anything my friend wanted a sorbet and asked if she could have a scoop of raspberry and a scoop of lemon, he said this was okay. When it arrives it is only lemon I was so annoyed I could not even be bothered to pull them up for it as at this point I just wanted out as the place had a bad atmosphere about it, the guy did come up as she was finishing it to say he noticed she never got a scoop of raspberry and if she wanted it but it was then a bit too late. This place seriously needs to one offer better value for money, two train their staff on customer service and three improve the atmosphere in the place as it lacks it. I would never return as I felt there are so many more Italian restaurants that offer so much more than this place.

Nice decor, pleasant staff, edible food but not authentic italian IMO. I prefer rustic italian food. If you are a regular traveller to italy then Rustic is what its all about.
The focaccia bread starter looked like it had come out of a packet. I had the Fettucine Aglio olio e Peperoncino which I felt lack some power - sort of thing I would make at home! The Penne salsiccia also lacked in bold flavour, although I did think the salsiccia itself had a nice and crumbly texture.
There was Hawaiian Pizza on the menu which IMO is a dead give away that this is not an authentic italian restaurant because a real italian pizza would not have pineapple on it.
I also found the quirky idea of playing 'How to Speak Italian' in the bathrooms to be quite bizarre! It reminded me of being back at school in a language class. I can't imagine anyone would want to be lectured while going to the toilet.
On this occasion, Sarti restaurant wins hands down for authenticity!!

I would completely disagree with the previous comment - the food prices are extremely competitive for a city centre restaurant of this standard, and the wine is also competitively priced. On no occasion have the staff ever pestered us to buy more drinks...I have always found them to be very friendly, polite and attentive - but not 'too' attentive, as can be the case in many other restaurants. Also, the lasagne most definitely is not microwaved!!!
All I would agree with is that the decor is lovely - this restaurant is very atmospheric, and it's great to learn a bit of Italian when visiting the toilet!
I cannot recommend Viva highly enough.
