I've been going to Chukoku for a couple of years now but have noticed that recently it's been going down hill.
Last night a group of us went there for a meal and weren't in the least impressed.
The meat seemed to be cheaper cuts consisting mainly of fat. I usually eat the char sui pork but we waited at least 40 minutes before some was put out-it was tough and tasteless.
The barbecue ribs were all fat and no meat.
The beef and black bean dish was quite tough and the meat didn't taste great.
The fruit available was hard and unedible.
The gateau tasted like it had been defrosted for a day or two.
The salad bar was practically empty.
I definitely won't be returning here again and would advise others that they shouldn't rely on it's previous reputation-it's not a patch on what it was.

The dishes are okay although quite pricey for just so-so taste. don't really mind about that but what piss me off is the manager at the paying counter. He is so rude & shows disrespect to people. doubt there would be returning customers for those who personally interact with him.

i've been to Chukoku three times..but the last one, i couldnt bear with the behaviour of the cashier (bos) at the counter. Before this, i enjoyed the hot plates but the rudeness of the manager seems intolerable. He should know how to treat the customer. not by showing dissatisfied faces towards customer!

We have been to it many times and were shocked when friends said that they did not like the place. On the last few visits over the past 3-4 months we have noticed the food quality is indeed starting to suffer, it is no where as good as it used to be. A group of friends thought of giving it a try again two days ago but still not much improvement which was disappointing but that soon turned to anger as the manager (or many be he's the restaurant owner) started a fight with my husband. We went for desert & tried to serve a friend some ice cream only to get sprayed knee down in a fine aerosol of milk or ice cream mix. Who we can only assume is the manager standing behind the counter about a foot or two away from the machine did not make any attempt to warn us & after being asked why there was no out of order sign on the ice cream machine or if why he didn't shout over & caution not to use it the man came out yelling and screaming that there was a sign and if someone had moved what was he to do! There are ways of dealing with customers specially when the restaurant has been in the wrong instead yelling abuse to the customer & treating them like dirt. He was happy enough to let the staff take full payment for the meal while he stood with his back turned to us throughout, not a sign of apology for his behaviour or for what happened with the machine. I will not go to a place and pay for abuse and bad food and neither would any of my friends who were present on that day. Everyone else can make an informed decision but in the restaurant business such behaviour even once is intolerable.

Unless you're going to eat absolutely loads it really isn't worth it. Fair enough you have a wide selection but the quality is rather so so, especially towards the end of the night. If, however, you go when the grill is on it's quite a different story. You can have various dishes made up for you from fresh - sure beats the highly 'stodgy' fayre in the hot plates.
