The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
A cosy dining room and convivial environment make the Inn at Kippen well worth a detour. While the food verges towards the finer end of the scale, owner Gordon Wright has made a conscious effort not to get too carried away, keeping the atmosphere, and the prices, relaxed. Instead of changing wholesale, the menu tends to ebb and flow, indicative of availability and desirability, with the odd regulars’ favourite (like a twice-baked parmesan soufflé) surviving long-term.

The List's review neatly summed up just how special this place was. Unfortunately new owners took over in November 2012 and have replaced the distinctive and special menu with low grade generic fodder.
The menu was like something out of the 70's - steak pie, curry of the day, shepherd's pie, lasagne, fish and chips.... Having enjoyed the previous imaginative offering so much, I can hardly believe that a restaurateur would consider it wise to make such a drastic change to a popular eaterie. Perhaps not surprisingly we were the only two diners that day where previously bookings were essential.
There is money in Kippen and the surrounding area plus a significant group of regular diners willing to travel from further afield to enjoy the Inn at Kippen experience. However, it appears that the new owners have decided to move away from fine dining and replace it with a plasticised 'family friendly' restaurant. Very, very disappointing.

Went here a couple of months as I used to live quite near Kippen and was passing through the area. What a difference!! The new owners are on the ball, and the whole place is friendly and welcoming and we ended up staying there for a lot longer than expected, having had a fantastic but simple country meal of haddock and chips in the restaurant, then stayed in the bar, in front of the wood burning stove chatting away to the locals! Staff are friendly and competent (and dare I say - my girlfriend will kill me - beautiful), and the whole place sort of reminds you of your best friends living room!!
Would recommend to anyone!

Lovely restaurant and brilliant staff, great fresh food, particularly the fresh fish, waitresses very friendly and accomodating. New management have definitely made their mark 12 months on after building from the previous poor reputation. Would certainly recommend.

You will need to update this pub for 2009 as it is under new ownership. Unfortunately it ihas suffered instead of improving. The food is lacking, the owners unfriendly and pompous, and the staff generally untrained in restaurant duties. Pity - the decor is much improved and bodes well on entering - but sadly, everything else is sub-standard.
