Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2011 edition.

The usual chip shop favourites are neatly arrayed in sparkling stainless steel counters, but Rapido's vibrant blue and orange frontage promises – and delivers – more than your average chippy. The wide-ranging menu truly does offer something for everyone, with a significant number of vegetarian options (and vegetable oil is used for all deep-frying). Fish suppers are a given, but healthier choices include baked potatoes, salads and a variety of wraps. Pastas and pizzas are also available, with the light, crispy bases home-made on the premises. The more adventurous will be tempted by specialist gourmet pizzas with toppings such as mussels, prawns and Tabasco. If you've still got room, try the well-stocked dessert counter's wickedly gooey caramel apple pie and chocolate fudge cake.

  • Delivery: £2 through Just-Eat; £1.50 when calling direct
  • Provides: Vegetarian options (at least ¼ main courses)

Tried as usual take away on holiday, never again! Recieved my pasta which was congealed and cold through out. Call back and was told to put it in the microwave as this is what they do!!!!!!! I was mortified, heat my own food! Think they are missing the point of the service they are supposed to be offering! They dont quite get the concept of fresh food which they told me my freezing cold pasta that had been pre cooked then refridgerated was!!!!!! AVOID

A good selection although it appears that a lot of ingredients are bought in pre-prepared.

In any event this venue should be judged in the first instance as a chippie and as such there is just no excuse for frozen chips.

Saw reviews and decided to give Rapido a try. After 3 deliveries I've decided "the benefit of the doubt" applies no more. Here's why:

Under cooked chips (which actually are frozen chips, not home made), battered fish is same price as every other chippy but the fish is paper thin and you get mostly batter in your fish supper. For curry sauce lovers, BEWARE: it is sweet curry sauce with currents etc, twice I asked if they had 'plain' curry sauce, twice I was told yes, and twice I was delivered 'sweet' curry sauce.

Fast delivery and staff very polite, but the standard of food just doesn't deliver.
