The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the 2012 edition.
This small but enduringly popular restaurant is handily located in the City Centre and well placed for theatre and cinema goers. The galley kitchen and expansive windows create a welcoming atmosphere for diners. Valpolicella proves great value among the wines and a perfect companion to the range of pizzas and pastas on offer. Mountainous deep-fried mozzarella sticks are crispy and addictive, while the bruschetta neatly balances sweet and crunchy. Parma ham pizza has a wonderfully light base though the sauce doesn’t quite offset the saltiness of the ham. The chicken chianti is an unusual dish with grapes, which pulls off its blend of seemingly odd ingredients. A range of traditional desserts will suit everyone and the tartufo nero has a rich and creamy zabaglione centre. With friendly staff warming the atmosphere, a wide range of reliable dishes and the tasteful décor added to the generous afternoon lunch deal, Amalfi will remain a popular option for an unplanned central bite.

We went for the pre theatre - good value at £10.95 for 2 courses, no complaints about the quality of food or portion sizes.
Drinks very expensive £2.20 for a soda and lime - probably not even a half pint and £3.95 for a bottle of Peroni. The restaurant has been recently refurbished so I suppose they have to try and recoup the cost of that in some way or is that just par for the course for italian restaurants?

Visited the Amalfi on Saturday 30.08.08 with my family and we were all pleasantly surprised. The four of us all ate from the ala'cart menu and everyone had different meals everything was faultless. We had our starters and we asked if we could wait 20/30 mins for our main courses this was not a problem to many places now a days try and rush you but not the Amlfi. The wine was lovely and the atmosphere was relaxed well done to all the staff. Also can I recomend the al pepe sauce it was amazing will definatly be going back keep up the great work guys
