The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
There’s a whole lot going on beneath this leafy residential crescent – themed-dining events, DJs, quiz nights and Six Nations Rugby equate to something for all. Spacious yet homely, it’s a true laidback local that extends a warm reception beyond its neighbours – drawing in students, families, young professionals, sports fans and book groups from afar. Sups from the tap include home-brewed St Mungo’s, Belgian Heverlee and Canadian Honey Brown lager. Slumber on a leather sofa with the Sundays, book a booth to hunker down to catch the sports action or ponder over the artwork amid twinkly lights in the glasshouse. Gastro-style pub fare at recession-friendly prices keeps the throng happy with ubiquitous classics, such as three-bean chilli, pastas, roast chicken, sirloin steak. Mainstays are decent burgers with a chunky chip poke and stonebaked pizzas 2 for-a-tenner midweek. Fishing tip: dive into a generous portion of plump whitebait with homemade tartare.
- High point: Conservatory dining for private hire is a rare find
- Low point: Lack of healthier-option desserts
The Lansdowne Bar & Kitchen is what you’d call a ‘hidden gem’ – tucked away in the lovely Lansdowne Crescent, our basement bar and restaurant has a comfortable and homely feel!! Lots of little booths and comfy couches, and a bright and airy conservatory …… we have something for everyone.
The Lansdowne, or the LBK as the regulars know it, is the perfect place to come for amazing pub grub. On a weekend the restaurant is buzzing with diners, and more than often, private parties in our conservatory!! Our menu has a little something to offer everyone; from a Haggis burger, to a Moroccan salad, to a Seafood risotto all tastes are catered for. We’ve got healthy sized portions from a head chef that really enjoys cooking good food!!
If you fancy just popping out for a wee drink we’ve got something to please everyone, for the girls we have our fantastic range of cocktails while the guys can sample our amazing range of draught beers & lagers, or vice versa; we know some guys who love our cocktails and lager is slowly becoming the new wine for some girls. We’ve also got a wide selection of wines from both the new world and the old, with favourites like the classic Pinot Grigio to new exciting organic wines.
We also offer entertainment every weekend, Fridays & Saturdays we have a really interesting mix of DJ’s playing soulful funk to soft house to retro jazz!! We have Live jazz every Sunday, but not just your traditional ‘old school jazz’ we funk it up with younger, interesting bands to keep things fresh – “The Marco Cafolla Electric Jazz Quartet” always goes down a treat.
The staff at The LBK are especially friendly, and revel on the busyness of the bar …… the busier the bar, the better the atmosphere!! The staff have a real connection with the customers, and each member of the LBK team are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Neighbourhood Watch: Great Western Road, Glasgow

Including The Captain's Rest, The Belle and Lupe Pintos
What’s it like? One big road full of pubs, cafés and little shops. Flats are mostly old tenements above the bars, restaurants and stores which go up most of the road. Where’s it, like? In the West End, a stone’s throw from Woodlands and Byres Road.

Must say, I was a bit dubious about eating at the Lansdowne after reading the reports about the aggressive manner of the staff.
However, I am pleased to announced that nothing could be further from the truth.
Myself and my party were looked after from start to finish by the Manager and her team (unfortunately their names escape me!), even though the restaurant was packed out, I felt like we were treated as though the staff had all the time in the world for us.
Not only was the staff very attentive, the food was tasty as hell! I had a rather amazing chorizo and black pudding pizza, something a bit different!!! For pudding I tried the panna cotte favoured with cardamom which left me wanting more.....
I will definately be going back and I advise you to do likewise.

After reading the above reviews i really wasn't holding out much hope when i was told we were going here for dinner, but i am happy to report that i was extemely impressed. The staff were very accomodating and polite but were also non intrusive which meant i could enjoy my night. As for the food it was all just lovely. We had three courses and i honestly couldn't fault any course. A member of my party had very specific dietary requirements and not only did they accommodate these but they gave options which not alot of places do. Obviously not everyone will have the same dining experience i did, but from the looks of the other guests everyone was happy. I feel some of the above reviews are very harsh so if you are reading them please disregard them and go and make a decision for yourself, i'm glad i did!!!!

Been coming here for years and food was always good. Last two visits the food has been disgusting. Seriously, that is the only way to describe it.
I don't know what has gone wrong but I am gutted as it has always been a favourite. Perhaps it is a new chef. (although calling them a chef is wide of the mark).
Either way I won't be back as they were not interested in the obvious complaint about the dogs dinner sitting in front of me. Their loss.

Mr C I'm surprised at your review, I'm a regular customer at The Lansdowne and have always felt that Emma & Barry, the managers, are straightforward to deal with.
The Lansdowne is quiet for lunch during the week but if you want a quiet place for lunch, coffee and free wi-fi its perfect.
At the weekend its the place to be, the restaurant is packed and the rest of the bar is buzzing!
Have recommended it to a lot of my friends! The LBK burger is very good, give it a try!

Had a lovely dinner with two friends in the conservatory. It was very reasonable and delicious, yum. Sausages and mash are a right treat! Would visit again.

Took half an hour to fail to get our lunch here, an unacceptable time to wait for two soups and two sandwiches in a room that was mostly empty (there were only three other tables and they had all been served). Service not only slow but aggressive and contemptuous - there was no apology for the delay then the server argued with us about when we placed the order. When it's as quiet as this at lunchtime, there's obviously a very good reason.
Avoid. Everyone else seems to.
