The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
This bright and spacious establishment is now into its thirteenth year as a place to go for meals, coffee, sandwiches and cakes in Pollokshields. The menus and specials have expanded over the years so much so that for reliability and availability it is probably best to avoid the à la carte sections and stick with the breakfast, lunch and dinner set menus, though these can lack range in terms of vegetarian or fish options. Portions are always generous and you will certainly never leave here hungry. There are kids and brunch menus which include a range of familiar dishes and the lunchtime soup and sandwich deal is popular with local business folk. Cakes are homemade locally, staff are friendly and attentive, and a real attempt is made to create an evening ambience using flowers and candles.

Terrible experience at ikafe. I was served the worst soup ever and when it was apparent that I wasn't eating it there was no concern from the staff let alone an apology. They thought that by not charging me for soup I couldn't eat because it was so disgusting (but charging me for the bread and salad which accompanied it) they were doing me some sort of favour. Rubbish food, disinterested staff. I won't be going back and suggest that others go to Mis en Place a few yards down the street instead.

Had lunch here with two colleagues and all agreed this was pretty decent, especially given the location. Service was excellent, quick and friendly, exactly what you want. Ordered chicken ceasar salad, seafood salad and thai duck, all choices were excellent. A few side orders also, which weren't really necessary as mains were well supplied with ingredients. Two ordered deserts and I have to say, coming from someone who doesn't particularly enjoy deserts, my colleagues raved about these so much, it compelled me to do this review, I think that speaks for itself. Overall cost for 3 @ lunch not bad I suppose, could do with some lunchtime specials to bring the cost down slightly, but quality and service would definitely see me return, if nothing else but to try the seabass which is so wonderfully described on the menu. Should give this a try, I know we will again.
