Having been to Songkran 11 on many occasions we decided to go there as a special treat for my husbands birthday. The service was appalling. The waitress who showed us to our table didn't even offer to take our coats, even when we stood holding them. No one came near us all during the evening, and we had to continually ask them whenever we wanted something. The food was awful and burnt starters didn't help. When we sat down at the table another couple warned us that the seats we were given were in a draught- they weren't wrong. The place was very quite, but they didn't offer to move us , so I had to move seats.when we complained at the end they couldn't care less. I did not leave a tip, and certainly wouldn't go back, or recommend it.

We nearly didn't book this restaurant because of the reviews below but thankfully we ignored them and had a lovely Saturday evening.

Surely reviews more than a year old should be erased - business is difficult enough these days.

It's a cosy, intimate space but plenty room between tables. The service was welcoming, friendly and attentive.

We ordered a banquet for 4 (£24) which was good value for money. The standard Thai dishes were complimented with sizzling duck and roast salmon. Plenty of taste, plenty of variety and plenty of food, we were comfortably stuffed by the end.

Four happy customers and we'll be back.

Having been regular customers at Songkran II for quite some time I was very surprised to find a fair number of disatisfied customers complaining over the internet.
Both my partner and I have always found the food to be phenomenal. The Gang Sapporod (pineapple chicken curry) which I will usually take is perfect. An immaculate blend of sweet yet aromatic flavors work excellently with both the meat and fresh fruit/vegetable accompanying them. The service coming from an elderly Thai woman always has a very welcoming feel and she is both very polite and attentive.
My partner (who is, to some extent, an "expert" on Thai food) has always been overjoyed by both the red and (particularly) the green curry. Having tried both I must say that the green curry is very delicate and its flavor is perfectly balanced. It has just enough kick without subtracting from the overall taste of the dish.
The decor feels very Thai with , many, many hand carved beautiful wooden ornaments on most of the surfaces. Your eyes are never bored and there is always another tiny yet significant detail just waiting to be pondered.
All in all Songkran II is one of our favourite eating venues in Edinburgh (we have tried a fair few) and we are always pleased to return. A definite five stars.

We haven't visted this place in a while but used to love the friendly service and fresh food. We visited this time on Hogmanay, the place was busy, the food was ok but for us was let down by the criminal charging of £6 for a bottle of water...disgusting. We double checked with the waiter and he agreed that the price was ridiculous but looked pretty apathetic to it all.

We didn't leave a tip to compensate...sad. Money grabbing at it's best. We won't be back anytime soon.

If you must go, PLEASE ask for TAP!!

The vegetarian food here is always amazing. One of the best Thais in Edinburgh I believe. Abysmal music though! Smoochy 80's ballads. No music would be better!

Went here on a Sunday as an alternative to going to our usual restaurant closer to home. We decided to order the banquet for two. The starter was a selection with prawns, satay skewers, ribs and some processed chicken on toast. While the prawns were good, the rest was reheated, poor quality ingredients which did not go down well. For our mains we were offered a selection with a curry dish, which was okay, but not spectacular; a black bean dish which was overpowering; and a very insipid chicken noodle dish - a replacement for the baked salmon we were promised on the menu. This was finished off with a cup of brown water described as coffee, which we had to wait 20 minutes for, despite being only two of six people in the restaurant.
After making our complaints known, we were offered a mere 3 pounds off our 44 pound meal, by a rather unprofessional head waitress. Needless to say, we will not be going back here and will gladly go back to our old Thai restaurant on Howe Street - once the stomach upset is over!

Have been to Songkran II few times, always enjoyed their food. I would have given 4 stars, if not for the poor service given that it is not a cheap restaurant. The last time we were there when we were getting ready to leave my girl friend was asked to find her coat.
