The first thing you notice on entering Waxy O’Connor's is the sheer size of it. The different rooms and levels make it possible to find a cosy nook even when the pub is busy. Added to this, the wood interior gives a reassuringly traditional feel for an enjoyable pint. Unfortunately, the food is a slight let-down. The bruschetta starter is enjoyably hearty, however, the chicken supreme main course is slightly bland, while the side-order of potato wedges lacks any crispness and resembles a baked potato quartered and covered with Cajun spice. Much of the enjoyment of a perfectly reasonable jam sponge dessert is removed by having to find a member of, admittedly very pleasant, staff to chase up the order after a 40-minute wait.
