Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.

There is an atmosphere in neighbourhood restaurants you just don’t get in town. It’s evident here the moment you walk through the door and are greeted like a friend, at once feeling perfectly at home with the staff’s Italian banter. This family owned business has been honing its style since 1998, although father Massimo has recently passed control to his son Michael. A starter of open ravioli with king prawns and scallops is well presented and generously laden with huge, juicy seafood. The Italian sausage pasta comes with a rich sauce packed with meat and wild mushrooms, ably washed down with the excellent house red. Though there’s no pizza available, the range of meat dishes showcase the kitchen’s ability. The tender chicken parmigiana bursts with vibrant flavours and is a perfect alternative if not in the mood for one of the many steak dishes. A restaurant like this will always struggle to lure people from the city centre, but it fulfills its role for regulars with captivating warmth.

  • High point: Staff treating you like an old friend
  • Low point: Overly cheesy melanzane alla parmigiana
  • Number of wines sold by the glass: 7
  • Provides: Children's portions, Children's high chairs, Wheelchair access, Pre-theatre menu, Free wi-fi
  • Music on stereo: Traditional Italian
  • Capacity: 70
  • Largest group: 70
  • Open since: 1998
  • House wine: £14.95 per bottle

A warm welcome certainly awaits those who go out there way to find this gem of an italian hidden just off pollokshields. We arrived and were immediately greeted with a handshake to myself and a two cheek kiss for my partner.
The ding room itself is plain and simple with propper table cloths and the obligatory snaps of old italia on the wall. The menu is as you would expect in most italian restauarants in the u.k with the usual suspects of antipasto a wide range of pasta and a reasonable selction of meat and fish dishes. We started with a bottle of the house white which at £13.95 was ideal. We ordered the Antipasto Italiano (£7.50) to share which arrived with a selection of fine italian meats, olives and salad all of which was of an excellent standard. To follow i opted for the Cannelloni con Carne (£7.50) while my partner ordered the Linguine alla Puttanesca (£7.50). The two tubes of Cannelloni with melted cheese and a ragu sauce were simply superb, as good as i have had, whilst Linguine was also excellent. A lemon sorbet was ordered to end a wonderful meal. The final bill of £42.00 represented excellent value for the qaulity of food and service. This restaurant is well worth making the trip down South to Darnley Street.
