The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2013) edition.
Café Cherubini is a sort of hybrid of trattoria and café – it offers all the standard café items such as fry-ups and filled rolls, soup and baked potatoes, along with a range of straightforward Italian influenced dishes such as focaccia, antipasti, salads and pastas which carry the menu into the evening. Something about the combination of slightly kitschy décor, huge windows and under-awning outdoor seating make you feel like you might have been transported to somewhere a bit more continental. The café has chalked up 15 years in the West End which makes it something of an institution; its sunny aspect and view onto the busy Great Western Road continue to make it a popular stop off for a coffee and a bit of people watching.

I feel have to spread the word because Cafe Cherubini is a huge disappointment . . based on google reviews I went to this cafe in the westend yesterday, got there about lunchtime and the place was empty, not an encouraging sign . . the chef or owner who was sitting outside smoking grudgingly got up to seat me and then went back to smoking . .waited 15 mins before giving order, the breakfast with the famous "Italian sausage" . . the chef went to work straight from smoking no hygiene and served up what can only be described as the most mediocre, frankly disgusting breakfast I have seen . . mostly done in mircowave pale bacon was swimming in the water from the scrambled eggs . . when I complained was told that is how we do it, nice attitude . . the worst over priced breakfast I have had which made a second appearance an hour or so later leaving me queasy for the rest of the day .. the whole "Italian" cafe is just a con, doubt anyone involved has even been to Italy !
